Studio visit with Winston Kellman

We had to opportunity to drive out to St. Joseph on the east coast of Barbados to visit the home and studio of local artist Winston Kellman.  The studio is located in a cottage on a plantation property surrounded by fields of trees and plants, and a view of the shore- all of which feed the artist’s charcoal drawings and paintings.

We were lucky to be welcomed into his studio to hear about his work, life, surroundings, and process.  There was evidence of Mr. Kellman’s prolific studio practice all over his home in an abundant collection of paintings, drawings, and works in progress.
It was very interesting to hear the artist talk about the work, and to actually stand in the surroundings that have become the subject matter of his work.
